Re: RC: HORSE 37 YEARS OLD

Get hold of some alfalfa/grass pellets or even straight alfalfa pellets
- they don't have to be "enriched" or "complete". Weigh them - your
horse should get 2% of it's ideal body weight per day. If the horse
should weigh 900 lbs, then feed 9 lbs per meal if you're feeding twice a
day. Soak the pellets for at least one hour before you serve them - put
enough water in to cover the dry pellets with about an inch of water.
We've got an old mare with no back teeth & she does great on the pellets
- doesn't matter if they can't chew when the pellets are soaked!

We also add (over and above the measured amount of pellets) beet pulp
(about 3 or 4 lbs a day, also soaked) and a food supplement called
blue-green algae. We feed vegetable oil in the winter. Lif
