Re: 25's v 50s

I'm not knocking CTR....it's just that I learned my horse was NOT geared
for CTR and after finding out how much more I enjoyed endurance, that was
it for me. I know we will have to ride some CTR with new horses and if I
am going for mileage or anything within our region or state, some CTR is
inevitable but it is not my first choice. Just a personal preference.
Actually, CTR is quite a challenge to me....timing myself to arrive just
where and when I need to. I hate sitting around at 2 miles. But my
gelding that I started out with just doesn't have the PRs it takes to score
and place well. He comes down to endurance parameters ok and is doing
better with each ride as he learns to relax but my CTR friends have horses
that score 9-1s. I can't compete with that!! :) My gelding seems to keep
saying "What the hell did we stop for THIS time?" He gets pretty impatient
with those surprise checks though he seems to be understanding now about
eating and drinking at vet checks on an endurance ride.
