MSM for Pain Relief

Thought I pass along my experiences with MSM...  4.5 weeks ago I
severely strained my lower back (riding, of course!). Nothing relieved
the pain--which was extremely intense...adversely affecting movement, my
ability to work, sleep, etc.
After reading a post on Ridecamp about MSM, out of desperation, I
decided to give it a try.  After injesting 3000 mgs of MSM, 80% of the
pain was gone in 45-60 min. The effect lasted about 12 hrs. This dosage
has kept me virtually painfree since Monday; a welcome and much needed
relief.

My question to any vets reading this post:  would using MSM after an
endurance ride assist in relieving muscle soreness in horses?  Anyone
have any experience or results using this as an after ride treatment?

As an aside, the MSM worked when other medication did not: muscle
relaxers, prescription painkillers, Advil, etc.
