I'd say, having learned to shoe in the last year and spent the last
summer "practicing" on a group of 35 horses (3 my own), that these are
two very true statements.  The first nail I drove, I drew blood.  I also
have put in a couple of high nails in the last year.  Oh my gosh, if
you've never driven a horseshoe nail, you have no CLUE how easy this is
to do!  It was very distressing to me to learn that, and it was very
good that I learned it early.

I also have had one high nail (no more) each with the 3 VERY fine
farriers I've used in the last 25 years.

It happens.
