Re: RC: Pulse Check to Vet (was hot weather rides)

Heidi,

I agree that with you about waiting to see the horse after they are settle down
from the rush of the race. Once again - regional differences are playing a big
part here, maybe!

You need to know that the East Coast rides that I attend all set up a flow thru
the vet station. You enter a "gate" for an in time, then crew to come down to
parameters in a general area. When you think you are at parameters, you enter a
box for P&R. If successful, you exit the P&R box directly into the vet lines
(often set up as lanes). Exit vet check area when you're done & spend your hold
time eating, resting, etc. Not much choice on whne you go anywhere & this is
the standard here.

I do see vets asking to recheck horses that may be "masking" problems... they
hold the vet cards & see them 5 min before they leave. It doesn't address the
ones who slip thru while "on a high", so the riders DO have to take
responsibility for their animal.
