Hay cubes/hay extenders

My favorite product, Alfa-Maize, is coming back on the market! It is
basically the whole corn plant ground up with a bit of alfalfa and pressed
into a cube(sort of like dehydrated corn silage). The company went bankrupt
last year and didn't make any but this year a new group, Ontario Dehy, Inc
is making it again. Call 1-877-289-3349 for a dealer in your area. They are
calling it Alfalfa Maize.
It can be fed dry-we've had only one really greedy eater choke on it, but I
feed it to my guys wet-just cover the cubes in water for 5 minutes and you
have a wonderful mush. We used it as the ONLY source of roughage for
several research projects both with young horses and old ones.Horses looked
great and remained in good health, but I warn you, they did turn into
termites! I definitely do not recommend it as the only thing to chew on if
at all possible if you value your barn!
