Re: RC: RE: Endurance and CTR

It is perfectly fine at the start of a CTR that one may go and hide at the
trailer if you wish, until most all of the other horses have gone. Ive done
it quite a few times. While I stand in line with a nervous horse, I try to
give him/her something to do. Walk in circles, backing, side passing,
giving to the bit etc. The "entire" experience of the CTR is what is
beneficial to a newbie, whether a 4 legger or a 2 legger. Worrying about
the start puts a negative spin on the whole day. It should be a learning
experience and be fun too. Basically what I like about the CTRs is that
the "race" mentallity is not (should not) be in the riders mind. When you
are at an endurance ride the "race" is in your head whether you want it to
be or not. The horse always feels it from his rider, and other competitors,
especially the other more experienced equines. On a CTR I am out there not
racing, but trying to do everything right. It makes me think about my
equitation, my equines manners, my trail etiquette, safety for me and others
around me, my pacing the ride etc. I like to ride both sports.
