Some is how they're raised, and a lot is the basic nature with which they are 
born.  One can learn to recognize which will and won't have "easy" 
personalities for stallionhood at a very early age.

Heidi (who is about to geld an awfully nice yearling for that very reason, 
even though someone even wants him as a stallion--but he's gonna be more than 
most folks want to handle, so off they come!  He'll sure make a spiffy 
gelding...)
