hot weather syndrome

Teddy made an excellent point. We need to think about how we
appear to "the public" whether it be CTR or endurance. Great we
got press on the Today Show, but what if one of those
"uneducated" people saw what we have been seeing this summer?
We have had an unusually hot/humid summer especially in areas
that rarely have these conditions. The next five summers might be
mild or cool, but let's not forget that we really need to pay attention
to the "risk" factors we subject our horses to. Whatever it takes
to solve this, be it more water opportunities, longer vet checks,
rider education, research on metabolics and feeding of horses,
blood testing or evaluate our vet procedure, let's do it! If it costs
some $$, let's not squabble about it. If it changes our rules, let's
support it. The LAST thing we need is a "steward" situation to
"protect us from ourselves".
