Ride start times

Nobody's mentioned when the Western States (70?) mile ride started at
midnight or sunset or some time other than first thing in the a.m. I
thought it was a good idea. People could get the idea of what it was
like riding the Tevis trail after dark, in race conditions. Is that
still happening?

Nasrif & I did that I think the first year I rode him. I discovered on
that ride that he had this thing about stepping over obstacles of
certain height. If it was higher or lower than his knees, it was OK,
but at knee height, his brain disengaged and we could (and did) take
hours to deal with the issue... in the middle of a race. Of course,
that Western States ride was just the first inkling I had about that
particular problem... worse was yet to come. It seems that I have yet
to live it down - even after maybe 10 years later. Lif
