starting at midnight

I was thinking about that too. My sister-in-law in humid Queensland
did a few endurance rides until she decided it wasn't her thing.
She told me all about starting at midnight in the pouring rain
and riding all night, in the pouring rain, and getting lost, in
the dark, in the pouring rain...etc...etc...
Wonder why she never took to endurance? <g>
I was also reading an article recently on the Tom Quilty that
was held in deep south Tasmania this year. At the start it was
freezing and they got to skate over icy ground, etc.
With the above in mind, it struck me that the idea of starting
in the middle of the night may be a good one, in terms of beating
the heat, but maybe should be reconsidered for different situations
(like Tasmania, f'instance).
But agreed. For humid areas, midnight might be the perfect time
to start a ride.
(and no saying things like "uh, but I'm just getting sleepy at
midnight - I wouldn't be able to function". How d'you think evening
people like Glenda Snodgrass and me perform at 4 am??? You haven't
*seen* disfunctional until you watch us try and tack up that early
in the morning. I'd deal much better with late night starts.)
