Hi Katie,

You should start by going to the AERC web site -there is a link from the ridecamp
site and reading the AERC handbook and rules and the AERC ride calendar.  You
will not be doing any AERC rides on your 1/2 arab until he is 48 months, but some
CTR organizations have novice events at slower speeds and distances and allow 3
yr olds to compete in them - I have no idea what you'll find in your area since I
live quite a ways NW of there.  If your 9 yo mare is fit and sound she would work
just fine to try some LD (25 mile rides) endurance on this fall/winter so you'll
know what its like before you start with your young one.  Best wishes in the
sport, you'll meet some great people and have some great experiences with your
horse(s).
