There is a great site that will answer this question.  It is called
www.ford-diesel.com.  There are all kinds of experts that write to this 
list, and there are lists of any of the problems with different models and 
different years.  (I'm a wanna-be ford diesel owner, and have found this 
list to have invaluable information.)
