training question

I wimped out this a.m. and took an umbrella with me out to the paddocks
to feed horses......both of my horses are quite comfortable with all the
bizarre things I carry around them, and as I stood next to my 2 year old
endurance prospect she tapped her muzzle against the top of the
umbrella. My husband taught her a not-so-nice trick last week - to give
kisses..and she was puzzled because she couldn't get her muzzle to my
cheek which was hidden under the umbrella (I'm short - she's tall!)

I tipped the umbrella back so she could see my face - she was delighted!
I raised the umbrella up higher, and she put her head right underneath
it with mine. Not something she needs to do, but I got to thinking that
when I take her to rides she may encounter umbrellas, tarps, etc. and
then I wondered what other 'oddities' we may need to be prepared for?

I have travelled extensively with my older gelding as for the past ten
years I have been a member of a mounted drill team and spending the
weekend camped at a rodeo grounds you see some pretty strange stuff, but
I'm sure Ridecamps have their own brand of 'strange'....

So, my question for all you seasoned RC'ers is this: what would you
recommend us 'newbies' get our horse prepared for? I much prefer to
anticipate and train in a home environment rather than be surprised!
