Made it!

Pulled into camp this morning. Quite a few rigs here already,
especially the Canadian teams (and of course the Canadians
are flying their flags high and proud - what great folks!). One
Canadian is having a little trouble though... Earle Baxter broke
down in Fargo, ND. Transmission gave out on his new Dodge.
The team sent down another rig a few hours ago to haul him
up since his truck won't be fixed until next week, so he should
show up tonight or in the morning.

We drove here in 2+ days - came across Canada, caravaning
with Susie Morrill - and gave Theresa McHugh (riding for the
Brits) and her great horse Spring Nevada (18 yrs old now) a
ride. Had a good drive. Last night we camped at the fairgrounds
in Moosomin, Saskatchewan. Got set up, just getting dark and
thinking about turning in when an electric guitar starting blasting
from the building next to us - turns out tomorrow is a holiday,
and they had a big dance party going - Susie and Theresa
and Rochelle (crewing for Susie) gave the party a go - but
couldn't get the Canadians to dance - so they settled for whiskey
and horse talk till midnight.

Tomorrow more folks should start rolling in - about half
of the horses are here now. Facilities are great - they've set
up showers, a huge tent, stadium bleachers. And the trail
is in good shape. Theresa and I rode the 10 mile loop (last
loop of the race) - lots of nice 2-track jeep road, fairly
sandy, plus we did one of the big dunes sections. Will be a pretty
tough ride - flat enough to appear easy, but the sand is
loose and deep in places, so the horses are going to be
working harder than it seems...

Khruschev feels great, he did the 3-day 150 on this course
last year, so he knows all the trails, and definitely knows
the 'heading towards camp' section! Hard not to be
excited - the air is full of energy, and all the last minute
camp construction noises. People hanging around the
office to register, and visit. And all the fit and beautiful
horses!!!

Will send more tomorrow - need to get off the computer
now.

Steph
