Re: rice bran
There's an article on rice bran at http://shady-acres.com/susan/ that might
give you some of the answers you're looking for.  It's acceptable (though
rarely cost effective) if fed only a pound or two.  More than that and you
tend to run into problems with mineral imbalances.  Some people like it,
others don't.  I don't.
If your horse is a hard keeper, you might also want to take a look at the
article on the same website about beet pulp.  Usually a better alternative
to rice bran, IMO.
