That would be my concern, re fluid regulation. But you make a good point that immunosuppression also lasts longer than the therapeutic effect, and since competition is another stressor, that's a good thing to keep in mind. Also, the aftereffects of allergies aren't "gone" just because the hives are, either--a good allergic attack can leave one fatigued for several days, too, which isn't the way I'd want my horse to go into competition, either.
