That's actually a great idea - I suspect that you wouldn't have to worry about crud and dirt getting underneath to rub.

When Nina Warren had Jedi, rather than use interference boots, she washed
his leg good, let it dry, then put silicone (like the caulking for your
tub) on it. It looked like Desetine.  She said it stayed in place
perfectly, never rubbed, and peeled right off.
