getting started

Adrienne Bassett weabe@ix.netcom.com
I'm new to distance riding; I have ridden hunters/jumpers and enjoyed trail rides, but never have been involved with endurance activities (oh yeah, I've done ride & tie including Levi's, but on someone else's horse). After years of no riding, I find myself with a 5 year old TB that is an absolute delight on the trails. I originally got him as an eventing prospect, and he still is that-he's a talented jumper and very willing to do anything I ask-but I'm having so much fun trail riding (so is he!) that I thought some of the endurance rides would be fun also. I'm new, so help! I live in Portland, Oregon and need a mentor or at least some contacts.I realize most people do not ride TBs (we used a 1/2 Arab for ride & die); are they a total wash out in endurance? I am not looking to win, just to have a great time. Thanks for any input.
Sincerely,
Adrienne & Victor
