I'm not sure that "licensed in the same state" is required -- how about
just licensed and in good standing *somewhere*? With meds on hand the
knowledge/skill/experience to use them if necessary? Isn't there some
sort of reciprocity agreement among the various states for temporary or
restricted licensure of a vet for special activities, like a ride or a
show?
I know that with attorneys, for example, it is possible to obtain
permission from a state bar to practice in that state temporarily for a
specific case, when associated with local counsel, without having to pass
the bar and/or anything else required to actually practice *normally* in
that state. Physicians are allowed to "consult" on cases outside their
regular jurisdiction, too, I believe. I don't know much about vets, but I
would think there is something similar ... or perhaps there should be, if
there isn't already.
I don't have all the answers either, but it's an interesting issue.
