Cure for Thumps?

I want to share a way to deal with thumps for those horses prone to them. My
husband and my horses have both gotten thumps on hot and/or humid rides in
the past. (Full brothers by the way!) We just did this on the Californios
100 last weekend, which was really hot (and they werent' used to it yet this
year), and had no problem with thumping. Also their grades were good.
Every two hours, religiously, we gave our guys 20cc of Lyte Now electrolytes
(we think this is the best ratio of calcium to magnesium we've found). Gary
thinks his horse got a slightly sensitive stomach from this quantity; Blazin'
was fine--but next time we're going to try only 10 ccs each time. (Also, of
course the quantity would depend on the weather & how fast you're going; we
went at a very moderate pace).
I know thumping comes up as a question occasionally, and hope this helps.
