Horse Off Trail

I received these comments from the executive Director of the Pacific Crest
Trail Association after I forwarded him the notice about horses falling off
the PCT in Washington. It seemed to me somebody should do something about
it. He has some valid comments, that need answers from those who wrote
about the incident in the first place -- so read on:

>To answer your question, the team is waiting for the snow to melt.

>Now a question for you. When did these incidents occur?
>
>These horror stories keep making the rounds on the Internet, and
>there's never any attribution or dates to tie them down. Names,
>dates, location, trail junction or milepost (from PCTA Data Book),
>Forest, District, National Park?
>
>How old is this "news"?

><<Comments on the state of trail in Washington are very discouraging,
>including the loss of two horses in two separate incidences.>>

>If these happened recently, I can only ask, what is a rider doing with
>a horse in 6 to 8 feet of snow? The rider didn't know where the trail
>was, so how could s/he know it fell off of the trail. Are we still
>talking about the PCT, or was it some other trail?

>Please tell your friends to check the pcta.org website for trail
