My take on it is that you have never been in ride management. By the time it
is three days before a ride a considerable amount of money has already been
committed based on the entries and even one refund, not to mention weakening
the policy to encourage more loss, can sometimes mean disaster.  It isn't
your mother's fault either.If it hasn't happened to you in 7 years, that
means you have done this before.  Or many times.  The other ride managers
simply made the sacrifice and perhaps refunded it to you.  What is the
policy? Perhaps the thing to do is abide by the policy going into the ride,
not trying to bend it later.  I will not put on many rides anymore because
as a volunteer there is just no way to feeling a blessing!  Good look on
learning how to cope with reality.
