What was the refund policy stated on the ride entry?  If there was no
refund policy outlined, I would assume there were no refunds.  And I don't
find it all surprising that your check was already cashed ... they had to
spend that money on advance preparations for the ride.

I generally find that the refund policies on endurance rides are *very*
generous.  I personally would not expect any refund if I cancelled only 3
days before the event -- any event.  Putting on a ride is a very expensive
proposition, and I'm glad the RMs are willing to undertake the risk.  Lots
of costs depend on how many riders are coming, and most of those expenses
are already set by the week of the ride.  If you send in a check, you are
making a promise that you will come, and dollars are spent on your behalf
in advance.  If I were you, I'd write it off as bad luck.  Life's like
that sometimes.  Or make your mother pay for it. <BG>
