Summer Itch

If you are like me and have a horse that is oversensitive to bug bites, I
think I may have stumbled upon the answer. Since my only children are the
horse and cats, I decided to turn to my friends with kids for an answer. The
question -- what do you give your kids for the itches resulting from bug
bites? Unanimously everyone said Benadryl.

I hated to think what the dose of liquid Benadryl would be for a 1,000 lb
animal. But I decided to check out my local pharmacy and see what I could
come up with. What I found was Benadryl gel.

I decided to give it a try -- what was another 6 bucks compared to the amount
of money I already spend on Phoenix. I started rubbing it into the dock of
his tail twice a day on Friday. Much to my amazement, he hasn't rubbed his
tail since. Not only that, it doesn't collect dirt and dust, it goes on very
dry and doesn't leave an oily film.

I have also started using it on his mosquito bites and the swelling goes down
within a couple of hours. He is no longer looking at everything and
everybody as a scratching post.

Hopefully, this solves the tail rubbing issue we have every bug season. And
let me tell you, the bugs are bad this year in Minnesota -- we are definitely
earning our reputation as the mosquito being the state bird!!!!

The other plus is that I can use it on my mosquito bites.

Diane & Phoenix (the itches are gone!!!!)
