Kids say the darndest things....

When my daugher was about three, I was discussing groceries with my husband
and mentioned that whole chickens were on sale at the local store and I was
going to get some. My daughter piped up that she wanted to go to the
store, too, but as anyone with a 3-year old knows, a chance to go to the
store alone cannot be passed up. As we had spent part of the morning
collecting eggs and feeding our neighbors hens, I told her that she needed
to help Daddy fix the fences now. She very reluctantly agreed and they
went out the door. I went to the store, came home with groceries and put
one of the chickens in a roaster pan in the oven to cook. When my husband
and daughter came in, she asked very seriously, "Where's the 'shickens'?".
"In the oven", I replied. She looked at me with a shocked expression,
"Yaying down???", she asked as she hurried to look in the oven. She had
thought I was getting live chickens!! :):)
