sponging vs. scooping



You mean not everyone uses a scoop?  They're common practice around
here. (Ohio, Indiana, KY, etc.)  I don't usually carry one on my saddle,
due to terrain; only a few rides where it's worth it.  And yes, they do
clang.  But our buckets set out for vet checks have both scoops and
sponges -- along with sweat scrapers.  It does work beautifully to dump
a lot of water on the horse in a short amount of time!
