Re: Washing your Hair with WHAT?????

Well, actually sodium laurel (or laureth) sulfate is just detergent and the
amount put into shampoo is pretty minimal. The stuff they use to degrease
garage floors is much more concentrated, so the relationship between the two
isn't quite that clear cut. Also, suds aren't produced by the SLS, it's
mostly produced by an additional foaming agent---if all those suds were
produced by the SLS, then your washing machine would be overflowing with
bubbles every time you ran a load.

Also, SLS has (unfortunately) been exhaustively tested to death on lab
animals just because it *is* used in so many products and there simply isn't
a link between cancer and SLS (and I know that because my family owned a
pharmaceutical company that manufactures shampoos and we had to maintain
tons of toxicology type things on all our products).

This isn't endurance-related, so I'll let this go, but hope this eases some
worries. I'd be alot more worried about being in the same room with a
cigarette smoker than I would about the detergent in my shampoo.
