Ticks, bugs in general & spraying tights

I have sprayed my riding tights with OFF to discourage biting flies, 
mosquitos, and ticks.  The only problem I have had with the spray is if I 
have just shaved my legs the spray burns like crazy.  I hope it is the 
alcohol in the spray, but whatever it is can really make me dance!
