Allergy to flies

I have been on the hunt for a new horse, and found a really cool mare who fits the bill in every way. Only one problem (there's always one), she has an allergy to fly bites. She hasn't had any problems in recent years, but has scars from her younger years with an owner who didn't pay attention. The lady who is selling her says all you need to do is keep fly spray on her during the summer. Anybody know anything about this?
