Electrolytes

Hi all,

I'm finding my "new" Arab Blue and
electrolytes just don't seem to mix. Is
that possible? I mean, I haven't really
ridden him hard yet... a slow 25, a
couple slow 50s, and numerous training
rides. I've only used electrolyets
sparingly as he doesn't appear to need
them.

3 times I've thought I really needed to
pay attention, got serious, and gave him
a 1 oz dose. I've used them in
"practice" during training rides just
so we weren't doing something different
at rides. I've used them in both of
our 50's. But each time I've used them,
Blue seems to do worse, look worse, and
recover slightly slower. I've been
using "Endura-Lytes".

It appears he's part camel. He drinks
and eats very well. He's done 3 hours
on the trail without water, come in,
dug into his hay without drinking the
water that's offered. He drinks later,
when he's thirsty... and he'll really
tank up. He pees normally, good color
and all.

Is it possible he just hasn't needed
them yet? Is it possible by giving
unneeded electrolytes he's more stressed
than he would have been without them?
Thanks for your input.
