Re: Tick control

Cindy,

>that use amitraz, Precor (IGR), or diazinon.

I cannot imagine using diazinon on myself or an animal. In fact, I
am surprised that you can legally. Amitraz is used for dips on large
animals. I cannot imagine using it in a flee collar on a pet. I
would look for pyrethrins or synthetic pyrethroids.

>3) Will any of these chemicals be absorbed and then show up as a
>violation in a drug test?

No. They shouldn't be absorbed. And even if they were, pesticides
are not being tested for.

As for someone's comments about numbing, this is not a known symptom
of pesticide poisoning. Was it skin numbness or numbness in
the entire foot? Perhaps it was a reaction to something else in the
collar. As for pets, an animal's hair prevents direct contact of the
collar with skin. However, individual sensitiviy varies and pets can
be affected as well.

Just a final plug. It is illegal - AND UNSAFE - to use any pesticide
for uses other than what is stated on the label. If human or equine
use is not specified - DON'T DO IT. Oops. Sorry for shouting. It is
just that my job is with pesticides (plants not animals). And as we
say - Always read the label!

off soapbox
