"Peggy,

BTW - You didn't mention what pain killer your were using. Do not use Advil
(or the generics for Ibuprofen) when you are dehydrated <at all>. It can
cause kidney failure when taken while dehydrated. I've seen athletes come
into the hospital who had popped Advil all day and became dehydrated. It is
NOT a pretty sight! Plan to take some before you ride (decrease any
inflammation before it really starts the pain cycle) and then take it
afterwards when you are catching up on your hydration.

I just want to thank Linda for this--I think it is something that really
needed saying! (I immediately 'snipped' it and sent it to some friends...)
We would never give a dehydrated horse Bute or Banamine or even
electrolytes, but we pop down painkillers like they're M&Ms, and even brag
about it! Then, when the ride is over, many of us like to kick back with a
cold beer or a Marguerita!
Folks, this is really something to think about--there's nothing even
faintly amusing about dialysis, or end-stage liver failure.
	OK--preaching over!
