I have an older ('93) F350 with the 7.3 diesel and it has a manual
transmission. I really like the control I have with the straight drive, will
never go back to the automatic. I've heard from reliable sources here that
an automatic will not hold up under heavy towing like a straight drive will.
My reliable sources are the mechanics at the local dealership! Anyway, I
feel the best towing truck on the market is the Ford diesel, with or without
the turbo, dual wheels, beefed up suspension, and straight drive!
