If you are riding with a partner, remember that you DO NOT have to out
run than the bear...  You only have to out run the other horse.  :-)

That being said, my two encounters with a bear were uneventful.  The
bear was leaving (I think he heard us coming), and the horse just didn't
seem to care.  Maybe the horses were used to our Rottweilers, who look a
little like a small bear themselves.
