Hi Susie;

I didn't realize this was you. How's Coast Guard life?
So, let's arm wrestle here, careful you know I'm a little guy, the ADductors
do not pull the knees apart. In fact External or Lateral rotation of the
femur brings the medial epicondlyes of the femurs closer together. This is
one of those optical illusions of the body. X legs are laterally rotated
femurs, O or Bow legs are medially rotated.
Take a look at the attachments of the Adductors, only some fibers of the
Minimus are attached appropriately to laterally rotate the femur, all of the
others, Longus and Magnus are going to medially rotate the femur.
This is the problem the externally rotated rider experiences, the deep six
lateral rotators rotate the femur and the adductor compartment is pulled into
the quadracep compartment. There's no room between the legs for a horse!!
Of course I agree with the soft tissue work being appropriate, that's how I
make my living. However, I also feel that it has to go hand in hand, no pun,
with stretching and other exercises, like Centered Riding. But to start
people can simple re-educate the tissue by pulling it make to make some room
when mounting.
I have a certificate of completion for you for the course, send me your snail
mail if you'd like it.
