More on Sports Saddle Questions

Thanks to all for the responses to my SS questions. I have
interesting results from my first ride in mine. I used a
Cloud Nine saddle pad, with the divided foam inserts. The
ride was fine for about the first 30 minutes (in the arena),
my horse was going pretty well for me. Then all of a sudden
he just got ignorant (for lack of a better term). He was
spooking and shying, rushing, and I felt his back really
drop. I asked for walk and we walked and walked until he
settled and relaxed. I decided to stop when I got a relaxed
gait a few times around (he's a Rocky Mountain Horse). It
was windy so I thought he was doing his usual "I know those
blowing trees are going to eat me" routine to avoid working.
That was Friday. Saturday morning I went out to ride again.
When I started grooming as soon as I touched his back he
absolutely caved in. I was horrified of course. As much
trouble as I've had in my saddle search, he's never done
that before. The only time I've gotten him to even wince
was when I dug my fingernails into his back. Alas. So much
for the Sports Saddle. I've got a barrel saddle I've tried
a couple of times. He worked nicely with it although he
still had big dry patches when we were done. I'm going to
try another pad, one that's wedged in the front. I think
maybe he's a little high in the rear.

Thanks again for all the help. Ridecamp is just the best!!!
