RE: Riding Pregnant

Sorry to say girls, this subject is blatantly sexually discriminating and
will have to cease. Since we men are not availed of this situation, further
discussion must go private.

have won if I wasn't carrying 30 extra pounds!!! I think I could have
competed longer, but it was early spring and my horse was young, so we were
 taking it slow.

My very progressive doctor (I went to three before I found one who told me
what I wanted to hear) said to stop riding three weeks before due date. I
jumped on my horse bareback, cantered around the farm twice, and decided I
was done for the term. I have the baby the next day...it was only about
three weeks after the 50 miles. >>

I can commiserate on the boy thing. Neither of my boys caught the horse
gene
from me. However, what you're telling us is that you basically had a
premature baby (8 months, 1 week). Maybe all the riding wasn't as good for
the baby as you thought. Don't want to get flamed or jump on anybody's
toes,
but an endurance ride is an inherently dangerous and physically strenuous
event -- nobody who has ever done one will argue. My advice to the original
question is: picture yourself riding with your newborn baby in a front pack
on your body. Would you take that baby on a 50 mile endurance ride? Why
would you in utero? Having had two miscarriages myself, trust me, you don't
want the incredible grief and regret that comes with. Take care and good
luck.

Sylvia (riding NOT pregnant is way better)
