There is a simple physics argument that can be made to justify that the
stresses on the legs of a trotting horse are higher than on a gaited
horse.  The very fact that there is little or no suspension in the gait
of
a gaited horse means there is less energy for the legs to have to
dissipate.

I doubt if there have been any "studies" on this issue.

That's interesting because both the TWH registry and the American
Saddlebred registry claim that Travler was one of the foundation stock
in
the early development of both breeds. While there may have been an stray

Arab or two in the history of these breeds, there were not very many
Arabs.  There were mostly TB's, Morgans, Standardbreds and various types

of pacers.
