Re: RC: TRAILERING PRECAUTIONS
John,
My inclination would be to put the divider back in if it is a full divider
that would prevent the horses from kicking each other. Your horse may be a
real gent, but you don't know what the other horse is like.
I would also make sure the horses' heads are tied up short enough that they
can't get their heads together & start the sniffing (then strike) routine to
establish who's boss.
If the divider isn't substantial, consider wrapping your horse's legs (&
suggest the other person wrap her horse) in case one of them strikes or
kicks. You are introducing 2 strange horses & making them encroach on each
other's space.
I have trailered both my mare & stallion with other horses, but they had
trail ridden together with the other horse before trailering, and all went
well.
Might not be a bad idea to let the horses get used to each other outside the
trailer if you have the time. That way if one gets excited, your not trying
to get fighting horses out of a trailer -- rather dangerous for all
concerned, 2 legged & 4.
Good luck!
Nancy
