Highlands, NC area

I am delurking to ask this widely dispersed group for information.

We are thinking of moving to the Highlands, North Carolina area.  Has
anyone lived in that area or had experiences there?  I am especially
interested in whether there is good vet care and good farrier service in
the area.  (I don't remember seeing a lot of horses when we visited there
years ago.)  I am primarily a trail rider so I am also very interested in
the trails there.  We would look for property that we could keep my horses
at home.
