Equi-pak instant pads?

For you folks who were talking about sole packing, etc. My farrier just
got back from the convention in Kentucky a few weeks ago and he was
showing me something called "Equi-pak", from the Equithane company.

He said he put it under pads, but that the makers claimed you could use
it instead of them. The cool thing was that it sets up immediately. He
said you could theoretically bevel the side of the shoe that meets the
sole, then if you came in on a loop and your horse was tender just clean
the sole really well, then pour this stuff in it. It would coat the sole
of the hoof, and run up under the shoe a little. It sets up almost
immediately and it could literally create a pad. He hasn't used it that
way so he doesn't know how well it would work.

It's $28 a tube and would probably take the whole tube to use that way or
about 1/2 one under pads. Don't know why it was supposed to be superior
to silicone other than setting up immediately. Didn't seem to be
medicated.

The applicator cost about $50. It's a double sided syringe that mixes
the stuff as it squirts through. It's in two separate tubes sort of like
epoxy glue.

Just thought this was interesting. I can see where it would be nice at
times to be able to apply pads at a moment's notice. Anybody out there
tried this stuff?

Angie
