horse and trailer note

If you're going to be using a rope, try to use cotton. And regardless
of the type of rope you use, wear gloves!!
ot other recommendation is to be sure you have
lots of time to reach your goals. If you plan to get your horse into the
trailer on a given day, be sure to have three or four hours available,
because it might take that long. Nothing will blow your training efforts
faster than being in a hurry.
I'm not sure this is the recommended way, but with Elliot, we parked
the trailer (two horse straight load) next to a wall (a pole barn),
hooked a longe line to the wall side, had another one running through the
manger and attached to his halter, and then maintained tension on his
face while we encouraged him forward with the line behind him, just above
his hind legs. He loaded without a fight in fifteen minutes. However,
some people don't like using a longe line on the horse's hindquarters
because some tend to sit on it and flip themselves over. This is a very
valid point, and seems to depend on the horse, as well as the insistence
of the loader (I think less is better).
