beet pulp again

Hi - this Triple Crown Feed you have sounds very much like a feed that I
really like called Vintage Racer, made by Blue Seal (pretty much a New
England/Northeast regional feed company). It has the same profile of
protein, fat, etc. It has a high beet pulp content, making it 14% fiber.
My mare is something of a hard keeper, but this stuff, in combination
with more beet pulp has worked wonders with her. I feed her 2 quarts of
the Vintage Racer at each feeding (twice a day), mixed with 1 quart of
beet pulp pellets, 1 gallon of warm water, and 1/2 cup of corn oil and
free choice hay or pasture. This regimen has helped her gain to an
optimal weight for her lanky build, her coat is gorgeous, and there is
no trace of the high-strung, nervousness that she had when she got more
concentrates. We also converted my boarders' two horses to this basic
program - one is a Morgan who was underweight when he came. The other is
a retired polo pony who has a tendency to get fat. By just tweaking the
beet pulp/racer ratio a bit for each horse, we got them both looking
great straight through Winter, no hydration worries, and we kept our hay
bills within reason. I'm glad some of the feed companies decided to wake
up and produce low protein, high fat feeds with lots of fiber!

Chelle and Dy (who needs a longer girth now)
