training company; security

Anyone close to the New River Valley in Southwest Virginia who'd like a
reasonably regular riding/training partner?  I'm looking for a group of
endurance/ctr type local folks to improve the odds I'll have at least one
riding buddy on a fairly regular schedule. I can't ride around home, so have
to trailer elsewhere anyway.   My closest trail stomping grounds are 10
miles away around scenic and challenging Buffalo Mountain, but I love riding
Blackhorse Gap trails (62 miles from me) and trails in the National Forest
near Blacksburg...also go to the Mount Rogers area with enough notice and
appropriate company.  E-mail if you want to chat rendezvous and so forth.


In re security--I now have padlocks on every outside gate to my property.
The one instance in which I left the front gate shut but not locked (January
this year) I awoke midday to find it STANDING OPEN with the horses in the
pasture.  (Lucky I now have the ancient one to keep the youngun company,
because he stood quite still and she stayed with him instead of leaving.) No
way that gate opened spontaneously; that's the third such episode in six
years.  If I could afford it I'd install a video monitor for the perimeter
and then do a mischief to the perpetrator...like taking him to court and
emptying his wallet (more painful than physical abuse!)  Anyway...locks are
cheap, if tedious.
