How to cure backing up?
Teresa Mc Huh Sierramex@hotmail.com
I recently purchased a five yr old Arab gelding with a view to competing him in endurance at a future date.
The problem is this horse had never had any training prior to me and it was a rude awakening for him to be expected to obey commands. I have worked with many green horses but this one resists by backing up no matter what the terrain or risk to life and limb.
He is a big agressive gelding and when faced with an undesirable situation will simply start to back. I try circling him but have a hard time getting forward motion when he is in back up mode.
Does anyone have good advice before he backs us both over a cliff one day?
