YES.  Only I wouldn't be inclined to welcome her at all, major change or no
major change. (My guess is she won't change, and besides, who's going to be
the judge as to whether she has changed unless you go through another ride
together?)  You could tell her that good endurance riders do not treat their
horses that way and under those circumstances you think this is not the right
sport for her.  Actually, good horsemen of any sort do not treat their horses
this way, and you prefer not to be in her presence and have to watch such
treatment.  And make it stick!  Even if you make out to be the "bad guy", you
haven't lost much, and you will have gained the respect of your friends (which
is more important than having the offender mad at you.) You can handle this
with quiet firmness without being mean about it.
