I believe this was two years ago OD when John Crandell III and his
remarkable Arab/Moyle cross Vigor were leading with a group of about
five when they came to the vandalized spot. Someone had not only removed
a turn marker, but remarked the trail some distance up the hill so that
riders would be lulled into continuing on up the hill and over the other
side of the mountain, way off trail. Fortunately, John was also
trailmaster and given that he was riding Cavalry, he did use his
personal stash of TP to remark the turn. And just to show that good guys
do finish first at least some of the time, John and Vigor went on to win
the 100 and (I think) the Old Dominion Trophy (morning-after BC).
