For several years now, I've been using a 1/4" diameter yacht braid rope halter
under my bridle and it works beautifully.  I put it on at our ranch, drive to
the rides, picket, etc. and drive home, then remove the halter.  I used to have
a halter/bridle combo, too.  I really like this rope halter method.  Just a
suggestion.  You might want to try it.  Also much cheaper than buying another
combo.
