Newbie tack questions :)

Well, on the never ending quest for tack, here's another newbie
that has questions about tack!  And this might have been discussed,
I don't know :)  I am eyeing one of those nylon halter/bridle combos
-- they look like halters with detatchable bits.  Does anyone use
these?  Anyone got any comments for or against it?  Email privately
if you wish!  I am also eyeing a nylon breast collar with the fleece
lining on it.  Don't ask about the saddle, the jury's still out on
that one!  I found one I really like, but the brakes died on my 
truck, so that HAD to take priority (for now) ... I'll resume the
search in a couple of months when I can afford to!

On the subject of first aid kits -- do you pack these items into a
saddle bag for the ride?  How many pack cell phones with them?  And
does anyone tie-up the tail, or do you leave it free, or does it
depend on conditions?
